How does attestation work after the ceremony?

Once the authentication judge signs your contract, the goal is to make the certificate valid in every jurisdiction you call home. Here is the workflow we follow with couples so MoFAIC, embassies, and home registries all recognise the document without delays.

Step 1 — Collect the Bilingual Certificate

Immediately after the ceremony, ADJD issues an Arabic-English certificate and stores it inside the electronic civil-marriage registry. Download the PDF, double-check the spelling of names, and keep the QR code intact—the MoFAIC counter will scan it.

Step 2 — MoFAIC Legalisation

Book a Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation appointment in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Bring the original certificate plus passport copies. MoFAIC staff verify the Civil Family Court seal and apply the federal stamp, usually within 48 hours.

  • Carry proof of payment or use the MoFAIC smart app to pay before your visit.
  • Request extra copies if you plan multiple embassy submissions.

Step 3 — Embassy or Consulate Stamps

Most consulates require: the MoFAIC-stamped certificate, a translation if their language differs, passport copies, and an application form. Processing windows range from same-day (for notarised drop-offs) to seven working days for busy consulates.

Share flight details if you need expedited service; some embassies prioritise travellers with proof of departure.

Step 4 — Home Country Registration

Once back home, submit the embassy-stamped certificate to your local civil registry. Countries such as Canada, the UK, and the Philippines ask for certified translations and a sworn statement confirming the marriage followed a secular law.

Attestation Tips from Real Cases

  • Book MoFAIC and embassy appointments before the ceremony; weekend slots fill rapidly.
  • Use bonded couriers for passports if you cannot stay in the UAE—provide a power of attorney so they can sign embassy ledgers.
  • Keep digital scans of every stamped page; some registries now accept electronic uploads instead of mailing originals.
